| aka Dix huit cents, quatre vingt (1963) Eighteen Eighty (1963) BFI Using an ingenious and fascinating technique of animating postcards, photographs and other printed materials, writer-director Christiane Clerfeuille provides an enchanting collage of Paris and Parisian society in 1880, fifteen years before the Lumieres gave their first public film show in the Salon Des Indiens. The movie draws upon a wealth of visual material from Paris' fin de siecle years and the images are attractively enhanced by Clerfeuille's choice of selections from Rossini's La Cenerentola to accompany them on the soundtrack. | |
