| aka The Works (1984) It's Davey's first job but his initiation into the world of work has its unexpected and comic side. This repeated comedy-drama concludes this current season of Welsh features and marked the first co-production between S4C, the Welsh Fourth Channel and Channel 4 in London. Seventeen-year-old Davey finds his first job a bit of an ordeal. He is taken on as a supernumerary in a large factory, and sent from department to department. On the shop floor, he gets painted green by the apprentices, and is harassed by a saboteur named Sam. In accounts, he is cellotaped to the wall by the young clerks, and vamped by the lascivious section head, Miss Price. In the corridors of management, he inadvertently becomes party to high level subterfuge against the workers. Taking his cue from Sam, he commits the first positive act of his life... GLENN SHERWOOD plays Davey. Appearing as sam and Miss Puw are DAFYDD HYWEL and IOLA GREGORY who played the leads in Stephen Bay Iy is subsequent Coming Up Roses, which was seen in cinemas and screened on Channel 4 UK earlier in this season. Besides Coming Up Roses and The Works, Stephen Bayly and his producer Linda James also collaborated on Joni Jones (a series for S4C, screened on BBC) and And Pigs Might Fly (a drama for S4C, screened on C4) As a co-production, The Works was shot in English and Welsh in two parallel versions: tonight's screening is in English.
