| aka Betty's Brood (1991) BFI This gritty and humorous portrayal of the effect of drug abuse on family life was conceived, written, performed and produced by the Gorbals Unemployed Workers' Centre Drama Group. Betty (MARGIE GAVIGAN) is the mother of a family who live in the Gorbals. Marie (DIANE ALLISON), her elder daughter has been thrown out of her drug addiction, but following her father's death, hopes now rest on a reconciliation between mother an daughter. Divided by family loyalties, Marie's move home is punctuated both sadness and humour as Betty's "brood" confront the realities of living in an inner-city island of Glasgow.
