Betty (MARGIE GAVIGAN) is the mother of a family who live in the Gorbals. Marie (DIANE ALLISON), her elder daughter has been thrown out of her drug addiction, but following her father's death, hopes now rest on a reconciliation between mother an daughter. Divided by family loyalties, Marie's move home is punctuated both sadness and humour as Betty's "brood" confront the realities of living in an inner-city island of Glasgow.
