I was pleasantly surprised to find that my radio recorder app had captured yesterday's broadcast of Junior Just A Minute.

Yes, it's back for 2 special editions recorded for Children In Need 2015. These are being broadcast on Sunday evenings, on Radio 4, just after The Archers at 7.15pm.

The two teams in this first episode were Paul Merton with "Mathilda from Edinburgh", against Josie Lawrence and "Douglas from Cheshire". Nicholas doesn't mention their surnames or ages but they both sound about 13 or 14 years old.

This in the first series of JJAM to be recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre. Series 2 was recorded at The Shaw Theatre. Series 1 at RADA Studios.

Following on from Miriam's observation of Nicholas using the phrase "if you want them", I noticed he also uses the phrase "if you want it", when referring to the subject on the card, several times in this episode!

So for the next couple of weeks there will eight broadcasts of JAM each week instead of the usual seven:

Sunday 5.30am Radio 4 Extra

Sunday 12.05pm Radio 4

Sunday 7.15pm Radio 4

Monday 7.30am Radio 4 Extra

Monday 5.30pm Radio 4 Extra

Monday 6.30pm Radio 4

Monday 10.0pm Radio 4 Extra

Tuesday 5.30am Radio 4 Extra

No excuses for missing it, especially as it's available on catch-up for 30 days as well, with all 5 episodes of the current series still available to download or stream on iPlayer...

Thanks for the heads up on JJAM

and yes I noticed Nicholas does that with the Subjects too and it annoys me every time.

But maybe I should let it go since Nicholas is still chairing the show at 90!

LOL. Yes, I hadn't even noticed how often he was doing it until you drew my attention to it...

Oh, and it was his birthday last month - he is now an astounding 92 years of age!!!

Born: October 10, 1923. Interestingly, BBC Radio began broadcasting on November 14, 1922, so Paul's joke in this episode where he says: "there wasn't any radio when you were their age, Nicholas... or indeed, horses" isn't correct, but he was born before television had been invented!

Nicholas has been doing radio since before there were microphones ....they just used to open the window in the studio and SHOUT.

Thanks to Paul M for that most memorable of lines.

Dave

The info I got was from the EPG on my radio recorder app. Here's what it said for Sunday's show:

Nicholas Parsons hosts as the classic panel game gets a youthful twist. Paul Merton and Josie Lawrence are joined by two young players to try to talk for 60 seconds. 1/2.

There was another Junior Just a Minute on Friday 13th at 1.30pm. The info for that read:

Junior edition of the classic panel game hosted by Nicholas Parsons. Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence and two young players try to speak without repetition, hesitation or deviation.

I had a listen to that last night - only to find that it was a repeat of Sunday's broadcast. :-(

The numbers in the EPG listings are supposed to refer to the episode numbers. Here is the info it added for yesterday's episode:

Nicholas Parsons hosts the panel game. 7/8. Paul Merton, Sheila Hancock, Josh Widdicombe and Jenny Eclair try to talk for 60 seconds, avoiding repetition, hesitation and deviation.

Admittedly, Nicholas does introduce the Junior show as a Children in Need special edition, so it could just be a one-off and whoever compiled the EPG may have added 1/2 because it was being broadcast twice. We'll have to wait and see...

Thinking back to 2011, when JAM featured in the Comic Relief/Red Nose Day special with Lee Mack, Sheila Hancock, David Walliams and Tony Hawks that was just a one-off, so this one could be as well, but as JAM is usually recorded 2 shows at a time, and as the EPG did say 1/2, that's what I'm hoping we will get. No mention of it in the schedules yet, though...
