I'm tempted to just ignore the last broadcast, declare that this series had 7 episodes and number the next episode #865.

I'm guessing we're the only bunch who actually refer to the numbering system to uniquely identify episodes, I'm happy to use whatever we agree on here.

following the precedent here in this series Just A Minute radio season 32 1998 where they also played a show as a one-off at an odd time and date and then played it as normal in the following season, I will probably re arrange the shows so it is numbered with this week's show at number 8... so it follows the season as it played out.

But the overall list here Just A Minute episode list will remain chronological.

However open to arguments to the contrary!

"857a" sounds like a good solution, it avoids having two numbers for one episode.  But it means the show will not appear in its correct place in my files list: there will be 2 entries at JAM857 which will puzzle me on future occasions when I have forgotten all about this (with my sieve-like memory that will be next week).

I think I will go with your idea of putting a text file in place of today's recording, just to remind me.  Of course that will have to be numbered JAM865 and when the next series starts I will have to use that number again for the first episode.

This is the sort of thing that could confuse a stupid person .. .
