Topic: Packaging

Hi again. Another thought just occurred to me.

Sometimes I wonder if people would find it more convenient if the episodes in the Jar were bundled into seasons to make large-scale downloading easier.

The drawback would be that to get a single episode, you'd need to download several others from the same season.

Does anyone have strong feelings either way?

Mark

Have to say I think there's an arguement for both sides.
If you really were to do that, then maybe do it for the older seasons.  That way the most recent few seasons are there for catch-up but the rest are there for archival.

Take me for example, as I've still not worked out how to record for myself then I forget it's on and suddenly realise I need to grab a few and then see I've missed a season and a half. :)

Sounds like a good idea.

I'd be mostly against that change, but I suppose that's for personal selfish reasons in that when I want something from the JAM Jar, it's very rarely more than one or two episodes.

Is it really an imposition to have to download multiple files to get a season?

You could also perhaps provide text files for each season, containing a complete list of URLs for the episodes in that season.  That way, people could quickly import the files into a download manager if they want to grab a season...

(Heck, then those of us who like our command line could grab a season with one line: wget -i http://username:password@.../jar/season1.txt for example.
