yes Kenneth in his diaries talk about going to the library to prepare the historical material that he used on JAM, so one imagines Magnus might have been given the same chance.I think I've said this before on this group, but a few years ago one of the British tabloids wrote a story about this and the producer at the time confirmed that the panellists did have the opportunity to see the subjects they were going to start with beforehand. Most did have a look and if you have been to a recording you can see that some of them do have some notes. I can remember Ross Noble had clearly jotted down ideas on a notepad for example. Sue Perkins is another who has clearly dome some prep. Some preferred not to and the late great Clement was one who refused to look at the subjects ahead of time on principle. The producer at the time made the point - and I think it's true - that the real spark on JAM is the banter between the panellists and Nicholas and of course that isn't prepared ahead of time.Or is it..........I've sometimes wondered whether guests are given the subjects beforehand.I found it interesting that in # 222 - S11E03=Keeping_Fit - in Magnus Pyke's first appearance at the 18:37 mark - he says:MP: Well the international candle is a way of measuring illumination and funnily enough the light you see is different whether you look at it with your eyeball or with a photoelectric circ. And then there is the pakinchi effect. You mustn't forget about that which shows that when you look at different colours you see them in different illuminations. And wait a minute! I've got some more things in my notes here.So it seems Magnus came prepared with reference notes on the relevant topics.Shortly afterwards, Nick seems to try to cover up this indiscretion about notes by saying:NP: While you're referring to your mental notes...I wonder what other deep and dirty secrets lurk in the JAM.
