Just to be sure, I enquired thusly of the BBC:

" I want to know if I can access BBC iPlayer Radio from the USA through my computer's internet browser by entering the same URLs as I would use in the UK? I hear from listeners in the USA that links supplied by listeners elsewhere in the world do not work. "

And the BBC replied:

"  You should be able to use the same links as UK based users to access iPlayer ".

So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Mind you, they do say "should" not "can",  and they forgot to specify iPlayer RADIO ONLY (the TV iPlayer for the USA has been promised but not yet launched).

I scolded my computer for not working hard enough and its reply was:

INFO: 1 Matching Programmes
WARNING: The 'default' programme version could not be determined
WARNING: No programme versions found
WARNING: You may receive this message if you are using get_iplayer outside the UK

In Korea I get about 95% of the BBC radio shows through get_iplayer but not everything.
A straight download produces an m4a file with a sample rate of 48000 Hz
I could use the option of convert to mp3 but it will only convert the format it will not improve the quality.

Anyway, if the BBC says I should have the same radio links as people in the UK,  then who am I to argue

Yours
David

There will always be some material which the BBC cannot make available outside the UK because of rights restrictions - e.g. some of the music in Desert Island Discs

It is stated at the beginning of DID Podcasts that "for Rights reasons the Music is shortened"

it least it does for this american.
I have not had any problems with podcasts or recording live stream or On Demand from any BBC Radio online. Quality wise I don't know- I am not tech minded on such things- if I can hear it I am happy LOL.
