Topic: No Tony Hawks?

Looks like this is going to be a Tony Hawks-less series. I e-mailed Tony through his website saying I enjoyed hearing him on the show and to ask if he was taking part in the new series and he gave this reply:

Ant,
Couldn't do the last dates they offered me. Waiting to hear now....

Cheers

Tony

Disappointed to hear that :( Any show with Tony gets quite silly, but very funny.

I guess there's still a chance. Apart from the upcoming shows in London
and Edinburgh, there must be one other recording date, if it's right
that there are 11 shows this season.

If Tony does miss out, it will be the first "Tony Hawks-less series" (I
like that phrase!) since winter 1998 - and only the second since 1991!

It is interesting though that the new regime seems to want quite so much
variety in the cast... Even an old hand like Tony Hawks gets cast
aside.... New broom and all that I guess.

well, I didn't mean like he had been fired.

But remember I'm a producer myself. You think Paul has a permamently
clear diary and is just conveniently available pretty much every time
they record? Ditto Nicholas? Of course not.

There are some performers where you work around their diary, and make
sure they can do do the show.

There are other performers where you ring them up to make up the numbers.

It sounds like Tony is in the second list. There was a time - not that
long ago - when he was appearing a lot more frequently than he has in
the past year.

1999 - six shows (and another six on TV)
2000 - six shows
2001 - six shows
2002 - eight shows
2003 - 10 shows
2004 - eight shows
2005 - six shows
2006 - six shows

So far in 2007 he has done two and it looks like that may be it. That's
quite a reduction and although it may be a complete coincidence of
unfortunate timing, I doubt it.
