I'm curious. I have heard some Americans say that they cannot listen to BBC iPlayer.
As an experiment, I set my anonymous proxy to make it seem that I was in America, and iPlayer played normally.

How many Herns/Septics/Yanks can't get iPlayer to play in the US of A?

I can get most of the radio output but none of the tv of course.
Only the occasionally music programme podcast is not available for me here in the usa. ( Seattle)
Although the Natural History one is not available which puzzles me - as a music programme I can understand due to the Music Rights.

In listening Live I have had no problems that I can recall.

I can use the radio iPlayer just fine here in Texas.

It's worth noting that if you aren't in the UK, the iPlayer caps out at 96kbps AAC.  320kbps AAC streams are available to those within the UK.

The BBC's definition of "In the UK" is stricter than it used to be and a lot of proxy/VPN IP addresses will no longer work.

Internet Download Manager used to be able to recognise iPlayer streams and grab them easily, but Auntie obviously rejigged their system to obfuscate the actual URL of the source media. I asked IDM to try to fix it and they said they couldn't access BBC iPlayer!

I also tried 'URL Snooper' but that could not see iPlayer streams either.

So, it's back to recording in real time with Abyss Media's I-Sound Recorder (a lovely bit of code, by the way - if you can hear it, you can record it).

I live in Canada, and I use the program "get_iplayer" to download the episodes of the various Radio 4 shows I listen to, and since the latest version of the program I got, the files as received through the program are 320kpbs AAC files. Which is very nice indeed.

Try jdownloader - it grabs you-tube videos, BBC rado & just about everything I've tried.

Thanks for the tip, but be careful with this download. It wants to install at least 2 extra pieces of unwanted software.....
