Topic: Testing Yahoo email posting issue

Message 1 / 11

I suspect Yahoo's failure to post messages sent by email may have to do with anti-spam measures that reject messages whose sending email server does not match the domain in the email address.

If this message gets through, I may be correct.

Cheers

The test message came through, so I seem to be right.  If the domain email address you use to post does not match the domain in the server used to send the email, it will be killed.

So, for example, when I use Gmail to post to the list and I choose my "mark@..." identity, the b9fx.com domain does not match the gmail.com domain that actually sends the email.

Damned Yahoo is being overly-petty trying to stop spam.

So - If you're using Gmail or a similar client that lets you use alternative email addresses, you need to change the address to that belonging to the actual client you are using.

That might help

Regards,
Mark

If you can't post to just-a-minute@... via Gmail, here is a suggested fix...

Before you send a post to the Yahoo group, check that the FROM: address is your Gmail address and not another alias you have set up.

Regards,
Mark

OK. That fix seems to work. I can see my own emailed post.

Goodo.

It works for me... but I'm not sure if other people were in the same boat.

Maybe if people who can't email to the list could go to Yahoo and post there to let us know how widespread the problem is.

Mark

Hey Mark,

Do you have SPF records for your domain, and is Google on the approved list?

I think the big email providers are requiring SPF, now, which may be why your mail wasn't being delivered.

By golly, that is an interesting point, James. I've spent a pleasant morning learning about SPF since I've never even heard of it before.

Anyway, I created an SPF record for my domain in cPanel and only now have to wait a few hours for it to propagate through the DNS to see if it is indeed the cure.

Thanks for the tip!

As the Goons once said:

Bluebottle: 'Ere, why ain't you got no clothes on?
Eccles: I've just been making a phone call.
Bluebottle: You don't have to undress for that!
Eccles: Ha, ha! We learn something new every day!

Update - 24 hours after setting up SPF, mail from my b9fx.com address is still being rejected by Yahoo.
I'll give it another day just to be sure propagation is complete.
