Hi,
I'm newish too....and very happy to see a question I can help to answer!

I don't know if you're using a PC or Mac, but if you're on a mac, there
is a very easy-to-use editing program called "fisson" that can split a
file into individual tracks for burning. I'm a radio reporter and have
been editing audio for years, using a variety of digital editing
programs, and find this one almost foolproof. I prefer it to the very
expensive ones that the office thinks I should be using and have loaded
on my laptop. (it's from the same folks who put out audio hijack, so you
can package the two together)

As for a PC friendly program, I have to admit I move everything over to
the mac for that job....I haven't found a pc program that is as fast or
easy. But there's probably one out there.

Cables? You'll need to look at the back of your tape deck to be certain,
but you'll probably use an "RCA" cable from the "line-out" jack of
your tape deck to the line-in/sound card jack on the PC. (you could use
the headphone jack instead of "line-out," but it won't sound as good)
And you'll need to have a digital recording/editing program on the
computer, too. There are many "how to" pages about this on the net,
so you should be able to find one that makes sense to you! If not, I'll
try to help.
