Sad news. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. NP will be greatly missed.

This is indeed an end of an era.

I'm completely speechless.

It was obviously expected, but like the loss of a parent, inexplicable and irreconcilable.

Chin up everyone. He would NOT have wanted us to be glum.

I am inordinately upset by the news. I knew Nicholas probably wouldn't be around much longer (given he was 96), but the news this morning just blindsided me. I feel like I've lost a favourite uncle or grandparent. I don't even want to listen to JAM right now because it hurts too much.

RIP, Good Sir. Thank you for the joy you've given me for over 20 years (as well as a lifetime for those who were there since the very beginning.)

In a change to the scheduled programme, Radio 4 are repeating "Just a Minute: 50 Years in 28 Minutes" as a tribute to Nicholas tonight. It's being broadcast between 6.30pm - 7.00pm, the usual time that JAM would be broadcast. No doubt, they'll be repeating more JAMs over the coming months... Simon

Also a special tonight at 11pm with Paul interviewing NP.

I was listening to the classic episode with Cook and Took walking the dog today when the awful BBC news ping arrived.

As per previous comments I was very sad when announced but what a life he had and how much joy he gave to so many. He wouldn’t want us to be down. I’ll be listening to a few classics over the next few days with fond memories

Finlay

Yes, it's sad but he had all his marbles up to the end; I wish I will be as lucky.

The big question now is: will the BBC retire or re-staff the show?

And the old recurring question: if there is to be a new chairman, who will it be?

It wouldn't work like ISIHAC after Humph's passing where they experimented with a variety of temporary hosts: JAM's chairman actually needs to know and enforce some real rules!

P.S. Two off-topic items.
1. Monday's ep of TUT is in the Jar.
2. Today I will merge the upgraded JAMs into the main collection and remove the old versions that have been upgraded.
