Topic: Revisiting an old thread

When I joined this group (over 8 years ago now!) I remember going through the old messages posted to the group that were available to read online. One thread I remember being hotly debated was from February 2007, started by a member known as "j_a_m_fan" entitled "New Chairman?". Following our loss of Nicholas, we appear to be returning to this discussion thirteen years after it was first broached in this group.

Revisiting the original posts makes for interesting reading. For any members who would like to recall what was originally suggested you can find those posts in my archive of the Yahoo Group starting here.

Simon

Hi all,

I was very saddened when I heard Nicholas had died. He was a brilliant chairman of JAM and it was wonderful that he had kept chairing this legend of a programme almost until the end of his life.

I've been a JAM fan for probably 25 years although I'd heard less episodes in the last couple of years.

Personally, I'd like the programme to go off air for at least 12 months, preferably longer. I think this is the right thing to do, not only out of respect for NP, but also if we want it to successfully return then it needs a break first.

I've been amazed just how quiet this group has been since NP died. I thought there would have been a flurry of activity. Also, I've visited http://just-a-minute.info/ expecting to see something about the death of Nicholas at least in the news section, but no, nothing since last year when Dean wrote his famous "falling out of love [with JAM]" post - a shame. If NP's death doesn't spur even former fans into activity, then nothing well.

My view is that JAM should take two years off, come back with a trial of a range of presenters, perhaps revisit the rules (but I'll be happy to stick with them) and then make a comeback!

David.

It would make sense that the decision was made because Nicholas was ill and there were no new Just a Minute episodes as there usually would be.

If JAM comes back, I expect it to be after a long hiatus, as it was with ISIHAC.

I've got an idea for something we can all do in the interim, but it's too soon right now. Give me a month or two and I'll post about it.

I agree for a break but I love the show too much ( too much of a Paul Merton fan) not to have it continue.

My excuse about not posting is that 12 days ago I had surgery on my spine/back.
I have been listening to some JAMs to keep my sense of humor. I tend to look ones with Peter Jones as well as Paul Merton when I really need a lift.
