this weeks show report

Just a minute 3rd September 2006

Guests: Paul Merton, Pam ayers, Maureen lipman, Marcus brigstocke

Subject 1: Timbuktu
Interesting banter between Nicholas and Pam before the first topic
started. She is a poet not a poetess. I am glad Pam is not militant J

Haven't the guys started off well though Paul should not have got
the topic for repetition of Tim buck, as it is part of the word on
the card? More Paul favroutism. Marcus

Good challenge from Pam ayers about Timbuktu being flat. I think the
ladies are looking like they might get left behind otherwise.

Paul is being quite the smart ass as usual! I read about the actual
Timbuktu in a travel book by Michael plain and Pam is right it is in
the desert!

Where is rygate obviously in the UK somewhere!

Big debate about Timbuktu between round they need to talk about it
more in the round! It is turning out to be very educational with
Maureen lipman telling us it has something to do with the French
word for belly button.

Mo Mali? Surely it is Mali Nicholas is thinking of.

My mom used to say the same thing about something I lost going to
Timbuktu.

Well the ladies are getting back in.

Maureen lipman lost the thread of thing and kept going it's was
repeated more then once. She got a bonus point for it too

Topic 2: a war of words

Like and AA gill catches out Maureen. Pam gets her on like not AA!
Good comment by Maureen about having 2 women on the panel the right
age for Nicholas! Good comment form Marcus about their ages being
combined thus making them suitable for Nicholas. Good response from
Nicholas saying Marcus is too young for me. This is good banter but
it is slowing down the game.

Pam got caught out on AA. As in AA gill. It surely is too short to
get caught out on. Sadly it was Paul he is going to get it no
matter what!

Paul is all over the place, on AA gill being called Automobile
Association on the previous topic too. Get him for deviation. Well-
done Pam. good comments form Paul. Some of us have moved on some of
us are still seeking closure I am glad he lost the topic!

Pam flounders and repeats people. Maureen comes to her rescue and
then trips over trying not to repeat an in AA gill again! Marcus
gets it. Good joke about price Harry not going to Iraq.

Topic 3: the aristocracy
This is going to be good. Be prepared for attacks on the system.

Good tract form Marcus I don't think he said in fact so no correct
challenge

Big err form Marcus Paul got him.

Talking about going with Nicholas to a castle in Scotland and
getting rogered by but he has yet to say whom as Maureen buzzed. I
think she buzzed Paul just in the nick of time. Ah he finished his
joke it was roggered by the lord of the castle. Kind of a shame he
repeated you know kind of spoiled his joke!

Maureen does a very good posh accent!

Topic 4: a beginner's guide

Maureen falls quickly by repeating you can get. She says she is crap
I think she might need a bit more practise!

Hesitation from Marcus Pam gets in. she is right he did deserve it!

Nice long tract form Pam. I love her accent! She falls over and
looses the will to live!

Maureen gets in, Paul challenges. Saying it saves time. How rude!

Another hesitation from Maureen

Paul repeats magnificent Maureen in again.

Maureen finishes.

Topic 5: a brush with death.

Nice description of a nit comb use then collapse from Marcus
repetition

More chat about her animals from Pam. Talking about her ram's bad
temper! Her train of thought runs off the line.

Marcus in. good surreal thought about basil brush saying boom when
he tells a joke and causing people to explode causing a brush with
death. He hesitates Paul gets in

A few people ah when Paul is about to take over. Sadly we will never
hear Pauls interesting story!

Topic 6: my favourite sin.
Paul starts off talking about how he could list sins, you know a la
clement Freud! Huge hesitation it seems like Paul is loosing is
ability to play this game!

Maureen takes over and instantly repeats herself!

Nicholas has funny explanation for why people might hear funny
sounds in the background. The wind is blowing the tent they are
recording in!

Marcus takes over. His favourite sin would annoy the hell out of me
how dare he driving crisp bags in peoples hedges! You don't drive a
crisp packet you shove it!
Pam asks him why would he shove crisp packets into a hedge and
Marcus says is this part of my minute.

Marcus repeats packet then again by saying o damn packet! Nicholas
says sometime the how get Shakespearian. I don't see how that is
Shakespearian but there you go! Paul gets the subject and is taking
the rise out of Marcus for his first contribution to this topic. He
is right too. I wouldn't drive a crisp packet into a hedge!

Celephone rapped? Paul what are you on about deviation for sure!
Maureen gets in. she gets to the end of the topic by talking slowly!

Topic 7: playing to the crowd

Maureen starts and makes another fast repetition. Pam gets in.

Nice image of Wayne Rooney doing a pelvic thrust (as you can tell
from my e-mail I am a Manchester untied fan) then repeats doing.
Maureen's back in

Paul gets Maureen for repeating what she said earlier. Repetition of
showing off.

Paul starts then Maureen buzzes for hesitation. For once Paul is
right. Lot of booing when her challenge is turned down.

Paul repeats look. As it is in the sentence look right up both Paul
and Maureen start singing quietly over Nicholas as he is trying to
talk.

Good talk from Maureen about the amount of knickers tom Jones get.
Paul buzzes looking to see is her figure correct. Paul gets
challenge he doesn't deserve. In the end it is not given. The
audience loudly boo Paul. Much to my surprise it is Marcus that
responds with a rather sarcastic comment. Paul joins in. Nicholas
has a good line too. Again a bit too much banter gets on with the
game!

Maureen continues then hesitates due to confusion over who is
talking. Maureen should really loose it but gets a second chance.

Very picky challenge from Marcus about Maureen saying playing to the
crowd is something we are all doing, Marcus buzzes and said not we
are all doing just the panel! Marcus gets the topic a lot of booing
then a lot of applause!

Marcus says George w gump plays to the crowd Paul buzzes him for
getting the name wrong them withdraws when he realises it wasn't an
accident!

Marcus finishes. Game finished.

All in all not a bad show but too much banter between topics rather
then during the minute. I think that shows why maybe 2 women per
panel might not be a good idea! women tend to talk to much , i
should know i am ome myself ! having said that pam did ok she made
less mistakes them maureen but ran out of steam a bit .

Paul and Maureen won but I don't really think either deserved it.
It looked like in this game Paul was loosing his ability to play , i
seem to sense a lot of frustration fomr him thid evening . and that
Maureen reminded me, slightly, of victor spinetti. Excellent
storyteller but someone who fell into the traps of just a minute too
easily. She tens to make mistakes as soon as she gets the subject.
All the other players are ready for her!
i think marcus deserved to win more .

Timbuktu was established by the nomadic Tuareg perhaps as early as
the 10th century. According to a popular etymology its name is made
up of: tin which means « place » and buktu, the name of an old Malian
woman known for her honesty and who once upon a time lived in the
region. Tuareg and other travelers would entrust this woman with any
belongings for which they had no use on their return trip to the
north. Thus, when a Tuareg, upon returning to his home, was asked
where he had left his belongings, he would answer: «I left them at
Tin Buktu », meaning the place where dame Buktu lived. The two terms
ended up fusing into one word, thus giving the city the name of
Tinbuktu which later became Timbuktu.

Ryegate is in Surrey, south-west of London

thanks for that Linda, I'm all updated now! Looks like I won't hear this
week's show as the hotel room I'm in has no radio. Still ...#

I was glad Maureen won as I think she has lost by a point in three of five
shows previously. Time for her to have a little luck.
