Some trivia about the first Victoria Wood appearance that I don't think
I've relayed before.
The 1982 recording was to feature Kenneth, Derek and Peter with a
different guest for each show. The two guests were due to be Victoria
Wood and Benny Green, a broadcaster, writer and jazz musician. There's
quite a good wikipedia entry on him if you're interested
http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ Benny_Green
Amazingly, neither of the guests had turned up by the time the shows
were due to start. After waiting for a while it was decided that Ian
Messiter would go on the panel for the first show, and that in the
second Ian would take the chair with Nicholas going on the panel. That's
how it came to be that Ian appeared once as a panellist

But during the first show, Victoria arrived so the idea of Ian chairing
the second show with Nicholas on the panel was abandoned.
It was a similar scenario that led to Ian chairing a show in 1977. The
panel for the show was to be Kenneth, Clement, Derek and Peter. But
Clement was running late so Nicholas moved to the panel with Ian
chairing. http://deanbedford. tripod.com/ jam37.html Clement arrived
during the recording and so took part in the second show. Apparently he
was surprised how well Nicholas did as a panellist - he ended up winning
the game.

You know, it's interesting when you think about how these situations were handled in the past as opposed to the one episode of JAM that took place I believe in 2004, the one where the panel was Paul Merton, Liza Tarbuck, Kit Hesketh Harvey and Charles Collingwood. Charles hadn't yet arrived for the recording, but rather than wait or even push someone into Charles' chair, they just started the recording and during the opening bits it was revealed that Charles wasn't even there.
still, it did make for a rather humorous round, to which Charles was supposed to start the second round and Paul suggested they just give it to him as though he's there and see what happens.
That was hilarious, and if I recall correctly, in the second round when he didn't start, Paul challenged him for hesitation.
