Am completely confused with this RAR-stuff! Worried that I'm trying
to download potentially harmful files. Any help gratefully received!

RAR is similar to WinZIP, just works differently to produce the same sort of thing.

You must have used WinZip to open a .zip file at some time, surely?

In Windows XP it is built in and XP handles the files like a directory - you will see the files in

Windows Explorer like a directory but with a different icon.

It compresses (shrinks in size) any number of files and packs then in to one file, for ease of

transmission/uploading/downloading.

It means I don't have to upload each episode separately to YouSendIt or sendspace and then

have to post a separate link in the group for each episode. Sorry, but I am not going to do that,

life is too short.

Step-by-step Guide to WinRAR installation

Go to the link I sent before - http://www.winrar.de/edownload/winrar.html

Click on WinRAR 3.70 at the top of the list

Click 'Save' on the download Window that opens up

For ease of use - save to your 'Desktop' - the background of your screen

Go to the wrar370.exe icon on the desktop

If you are nervous, Right-click the icon and select your Anti-Virus scanner.

(You do have anti-virus installed don't you?)

When the scan is complete, Rt-Click the icon and select 'Open'

The installer does not have a Digital Signature so click 'Run' if a Security

Warning window opens up.

Select 'Install' in the installer Window.

WinRAR now installs.

Select 'Add WinRAR to desktop' - the other default options are good enough.

Click OK in the WinRAR Setup window

Click 'Done'

That's WinRAR installed.

Step-by-step guide to running WinRAR

Having downloaded the .rar file from the Group and saved it to your desktop, open it

Note there will be two icons on your desktop now, a shortcut to the WinRAR program

you have just installed and the RAR archive you have just downloaded.

Either

Double-click the WinRAR program icon to start it

then

File menu -> Open archive...

browse to your desktop and select the archive <filename>.rar

Rt-click the .rar file you down-loaded and select Open

Click 'Extract To'

Select the destination folder

Click OK to extract

It takes a fraction of the time it takes to read this first time to actually do it.
