They were also popular in the long-running R4 (and then BBC TV)
series Goodness Gracious Me.

As regards Nicholas in Doctor Who, I still maintain that his finest
hour was in agreeing to play himself in the one-off C4 comedy "Mr
Jolly Lives Next Door". Starring Ade Edmonson and Rik Mayall (playing
exactly the same characters as they always do) as two proprietors of
a male escort agency (employees: them), they receive a commission
from the local gangland boss to "take out Nicholas Parsons".
Misconstruing the request, they proceed to virtually kidnap Parsons
and take him out boozing, carousing and generally giving him "a ruddy
good time". Then they have to try and kill him. It also features the
late great Peter Cook and is a minor classic. Parsons does well to
send himself up and displays some fine thespian flair.
