FWIW, my opinion is that the volume of spam we get on this list is
really very low, especially when compared with the volume of spam I
get from other sources. One just one of my domains we received over
10,000 spam emails in three days last week. And the type of spam we
receive here is no worse than can be found elsewhere either.

It seems to me that the disadvantages of a moderated group presently
outweigh the disadvantages of getting the odd spam message or rogue
"joinee".

As I see it, a moderated group would take up at least two people's
time. Even at a low level, I don't think that's warranted. And
that's leaving aside ethical and philosophical considerations about
moderation (read censorship).

However I don't have a strong opinion either way. If the consensus is
that moderation is required, so be it. I just don't presently see the
need.
