Topic: Good Day! Help needed with files please

Message 1 / 17

Hello everyone,

I have more than 460 Just a Minute files I am happy to share with folk
but do not know how to do this...

I have recently subscribed to Media Fire and shall start uploading them
all to that service...

I am also missing some episodes and would like to collect these if
possible...

I do hope it is appropriate to ask the above questions and do hope
someone may be able to help...

Take care and all the best

Sue

Sue,

I am also relatively new to this group, and hove found it very useful
to add to my personal recordings, along with mp3 searches and torrent
sites.

As far as I can see, there are only around 30 episodes out there that
are missing from the 700+, so rather than spend your time uploading
many episodes that people will already have, I would suggest the
creation of a list of rare/missing episodes that people require ?

(I realise more established people on this site may have already done
such a list /process, so apologies if I'm re-inventing the wheel)

I will start the ball rolling, with a list of the ones I am missing,
perhaps others can edit/add.... (numbering based on
http://www.geocities.com/deanbedford/hist1.html)

003/4/5/6
009
010/11/12
023
034
036
094
182
195
259/60/61/62/63/64
267/8/9/
270/1
307
351
364
383
400
531

(Some of the above are listed within series bundles descriptions on
this site, but are not actually in the bundle once downloaded)

All comments appreciated.

Fred.

In case I have stepped on any toes, a couple of presents to soften:

A link to a shedload of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue episodes;
http://modernangel.org/isihac/
Another to much Radio 4 comedy: http://pool.cream.org/komiddy/

May I suggest that you upload your files to the home of the Internet Archive
at http://www.archive.org

They are running a well-funded non-commercial project there, to preserve old
time radio shows, and they hold them in their archives permanently. They do
not require you to log in periodically, and they do not delete files just
because they haven't been downloaded for 90 days.

You can create a free account for yourself at
http://www.archive.org/account/login.createaccount.php

The old time radio section is at
http://www.archive.org/details/radioprograms where you click on the "Upload"
button to upload files. Just upload a single small mp3 file first time, to
create the necessary page, then use the "Edit" button on the newly created
page to add further files.

The only restriction is that you can only upload .mp3 files, not .zip
archives containing those files.

Be sure to select the option "Do not create derivatives" (at the foot of the
Edit / Metadata page) when uploading files or adding file details, or else
the Archive will automatically create derivative (lower bitrate) files from
the files you've uploaded. That makes rather a mess, confusing anyone who
then wants to download your original files.

One tip for uploading: they use JavaScript very extensively in their pages.
This is not usually a problem, except when uploading files. If you encounter
problems, try switching off the JavaScript option in your browser.

Once you've created a page on their site, in the "Resources" box you will
see a button marked "Edit Item". Only you will see this button, because no
one else is allowed to edit your page. You click that button to edit the
page, which allows you to either edit the text description or to add more
files.

One thing you should do is edit the text to add this statement -
This item is part of the collection: Old Time Radio

Then a moderator will be able to pick up on the fact that this is an old
time radio page, and will make the necessary adjustments. This will take a
couple of days usually.

But meanwhile you can use the "Edit Item" button to add more files: click
the "Edit Item" button, then on the page that opens click on the link marked
"Item Manager", then on the next page that opens click on "checkout - edit
item's files (non-XML)". This will open a page with an FTP link on it (you
may have to wait a few seconds for this page to load): click the FTP link
("Click to open a FTP window in your IE browser") to open an FTP window,
into which you drag a file (or several files) to upload them.

Make sure you only try to upload mp3 files. The file names must use only A
to Z and 1 to 9 and underscore: no spaces! Anything else will cause the FTP
transfer to abort. When you have uploaded all the files you want to, click
the HTML file in the FTP window that is marked "Click here when finished".

All,

Four more older episodes to be found found here, with one of them an
elusive episode, no #307 (27 February 1982 Evasiveness):

Enjoy,

As I'm on dialup, I can't download this. Is there a chance of someone
copying it to a CD and sending it to me?

thanks, Dean

Hi

Not that had to find - I have only collected mine from the links
section and have those four - not the earlier referred evasiveness
though.

looking forward to the last episode of the current series - a subtle
hint to the good people who have access and upload.

Jeremy,

I am relatively new to this group, and unfortunately some of the links
listed no longer work, so it looks like you were lucky enough to get
to them in time.

Specifically the ones down, are Series 12 & 13, listed originally by
martin_e_hood. If anyone could repackage them and upload, I would be
eternally grateful.

I am new to the uploading technology too (the one below was my first
attempt) and I found it surprisingly straight forward.

I have the last episode of the last series, but not with me today
(Sunday), so I will upload for Jeremy (and anyone else who wants it)
on Monday.

If anyone else has any specific episode numbers missing, let me know
and if I have them, I'll attempt to upload. (I realise I'm going to
regret this offer !!)

Cheers,
Fred.

A good initiative!

From the list of your missing shows I've got the following in my
collection:

094
269
271
400
531

I will make my entire collection available as torrents eventually,
however I want to finish the current restoration work on some of the
files first.
However I could send you these few shows if youre impatient (or find
no other source :) )

Apologies, yet more emails...

The link below was missing the www bit for some reason, and doesn't
work, so for better results, try this link:

Enjoy,
Fred.

I will, I promise.

The collection will probably be divided into several torrents, one for
each decade.

Hey Espen,
Once done, please advise what a 'Torrent' is!
Meanwhile would it be possible to post your episode 400
on Mediafire using the links page? I've been disappointed
so many times with episodes masquerading as this one
that I don't fancy downloading a decades-worth of files
just to find out it is the usual 'Garden Words' or one
of the other files that this has been mis-posted as in
various places in the past (see my previous posts). Part
of this episode, I believe, is on Silver Minutes, and it
sounds really, really good.

Here is my list of missing files for anyone who might like
to help, or indeed, would like any gaps filled:

3,4,5,6,9,11,12,23,34,36
182,195,259,307,309
364,383
400,402,417
701 (my own recording has been corrupted somehow)

As everyone will be aware there are several episodes that
are of such poor quality they are almost unlistenable to
and certainly detract from (mine, at least) the listening
experience. I have recently been transferring all my files
to DVD as a back-up and have found that many of these
same poor quality files play a lot better through a cheap
DVD player and mono TV output. I wonder if anyone else has
experienced this? - So far the improvement is most marked on
414 'Biscuits In Bed'. The drawback of fitting hundreds of
files onto one DVD is the variation in loudness of different
types of original recording which can suddenly wake me up
blasting out an hour or two after I've dropped off.

I digress. I'm making a list of files which are not of the
quality I would hope for with a view to getting the best
quality recording of every episode. I know not everyone
cares about this, but if anyone else is of a similar mind
I'm happy to correspond. I must stress here that I don't
count a file as poor quality because, say, part of the intro
is missing - basically I'm happy if an episode is complete
from the introduction of the first subject to the end of the
last. If the player introduction is included nd the scores at
the end then all the better. I probably should add that I
doubt the work Martin has done on some of the earlier episodes
is ever going to be improved upon and accept that the early
days are going to be somewhat ropey and that few. if any. new
recordings are likely to come to light. I'm really interested
from series 6 onwards.

It's a way of sharing files amongst many users, where you download
part of the files from others that's got the same file. It's a bit
hard to explain without becoming too technical, but a good torrent
client (software needed to download the files) is uTorrent (free),
found here:

http://www.utorrent.com/

One of the best known sites to search for torrents is the pirate bay:

My file is "garden worms", and that is indeed episode #400 according
to the site I use as reference guide:

http://www.geocities.com/deanbedford/jam26.html

You say this is incorrect? What episode # is Garden Worms then?
