Not strictly comedy I know (but check out the Wendy Richard episode
for a laugh), does anyone here know where to pick up Desert Island
Disc files?

Unless you can find someone who recorded them off-air, they're quite
elusive. The rights to the format were owned by Roy Plomley, who
originated the programme, not the BBC, and were willed to his widow.
She refuses to allow re-broadcasts and negotiated a high fee for the
BBC to continue the show. She also has a veto on the presenter and
ended Michael Parkinson's stint because she wasn't happy with him. She
didn't like his replacement Sue Lawley either because at first she
asked guests about their sex lives, but she lasted eighteen years.

No doubt there are collectors who have complete runs on tape - I
recently came across two episodes from the mid 50s - but I don't think
there is much out there. I've recorded a few episodes over the last
few years but most weren't of interest. If anyone has blues singer
John Lee Hooker's episode, I'd love to hear it !
