so how does one go about actually obtaining tickets? Every time a new recording date is annonced, I immediately go to the BBC ticket website, but they are always fully booked. Does anyone who has seen a performance live have any tips on how to get tickets?? I'm in Europe for the next few months and I would LOVE to see a JAM recording! Or, does anyone on this list have tickets to the Dec, Jan or Feb recordings that they by chance cannot use anymore? :)

I don’t know why but it seems to be easier to get tickets for theatre recordings than for recordings at Broadcasting House. Maybe it’s because the venues concerned charge for tickets although it’s usually pretty nominal. In the last couple of years or so I’ve got tickets for Manchester, Greenwich and The Drill Hall. When I’ve had an e-mail from the JAM website I’ve contacted the venue box office the same day. It’s worth the effort just to experience octogenarian Parsons’ pre-recording banter with the audience – he’s still in such cracking form.

Good luck

Bob

Well... I spent an hour hanging on the line to the ticket department
this morning to finally be told that they knew nothing about Just a
Minute tickets, and suggest I called back this afternoon.

When I tried again, with another hour of hanging on I was told they had
all gone. The Ticket Unit are a bunch of cretins. It has gotten harder
and harder to get tickets for these shows, even for someone who was
loyal to the BBC and has been attending shows for nearly 25 years.

Its all very disheartening.

Contact the BBC ticket unit by e-mail, and try to persuade them to add you
to their list.

They will then send you early notification of recording dates, by e-mail,
which is how most tickets end up being allocated for popular shows like
'Just A Minute' or 'Brain of Britain' before details have even appeared on
the BBC's website.

Because these are free tickets (at least for recordings at Broadcasting
House) the ticket unit always over-allocates by about 10%, knowing some of
the tickets won't get used. If it's free people tend to be less
conscientious about showing up! So it's not impossible to get yourself added
to the list.

Most tickets will go to regulars, i.e. the people who are on the list. The
job of the ticket unit is to try to get a full house, and the list is an
easy way to achieve it.

I used to go to lunchtime recordings at BH, for shows like 'Quote Unquote',
and found that they had very thin audiences. For most lunchtime shows you
didn't even need a ticket. You could just turn up at noon and queue.

Evening shows (i.e. recorded after work) are much better attended. The
lunchtime recordings are inconvenient for people who work during the day, so
there's a far better chance of getting in! Even having a ticket won't always
get you a seat in the evening. As I say, they over-allocate, sending out
more tickets than there are seats.
