I know what you mean. They rarely have serious actors or people who are dramatically trained actors on the programme (aside from Charles Collingwood). I wish they'd bring back people like Pam Ayers, she's not an actress or a comedian, but a poetess, and she added great nuance to the program. I also believe in the previous series they had a guy who was a poet, I think it was Robin Ince. I enjoy a good joke and a trip down the surreal as much as anyone, but I do wish there was more balance to the proceedings as opposed to the whole 'lunatics running the asylum' atmosphere that pervades the show now. Even Nicholas doesn't seem to give a crap about things anymore, and even sounds like he couldn't care less about the rules, because in the recent episodes I've heard, when someone challenges on repetition, he'll give it to them on hesitation, or whatever other challenge that the person didn't challenge on. Something I miss that doesn't even occur with the way the show is now, are the appearance of certain celebrity types that are neither actors nor comedians, but people like say.... Patrick Moore or Dr. Magnus Pyke. I believe there was a discussion about this on a thread some time ago, as to whether those particular types would or even could appear on JAM the way it is now. I wonder if there are any types like Patrick Moore or Dr. Magnus Pyke out there? Certainly Pam Ayers seems to be of that sort, being neither an actress nor a comedian. Certainly Tim Rice is one of those types as well, as he is a man who is an expert lyricist and not an actor nor a comedian (although he is damn funny). And then there's some like Gyles Brandreth, although he is sort of an actor, but definitely not a stand up comedian either. They did sort of have those non actor non comedian type of celebrities appear during some of the episodes of the daytime televised version of Just a Minute. They had Clare Balding, who was a racing commentator, and Brian Sewell, who I think is an art critic, and John Sergeant, who I think is a politician or something. I think they also had Ken Bruce who is a radio disc jockey or radio presenter or something. it would just be interesting if there was an infusion of these types into the proceedings in an attempt to 'redress the balance' as Nicholas so incessantly says week after week. --- On Fri, 1/23/09, Clitheroe Kid <clitheroekid@...> wrote: From: Clitheroe Kid <clitheroekid@...> |
