Topic: The "missing" episodes on the spreadsheet...

Are they just missing in the sense that nobody has them, or were they
actually wiped by the BBC like a lot of other shows from that period?

it could be a little of both, I'm not sure.  because for quite a while it seemed nobody had certain episodes and then they popped up out of nowhere years later.

In the later episodes, I'm assuming it's just that no one has them.
Dean has certainly transcribed a lot of the "missing" ones (if I'm not
mistaken). AU Radio National is broadcasting them sequentially, so in
a couple of months, they'll get to an area where everyone has gaps.

that's true, i'm hoping to hear a majority of those missing eps, including ones from 78 and 79, including Tim Brooke Taylor's debut appearance on the show, the same one with Miriam Margoyles I think.  half the time I have to redo my JAM collection to accommodate for the new gems that are discovered.

Any information on these AU Radio National broadcasts ? ie. do they
have them on the web so that we can all pick them up? Also, where is
this spreadsheet with a list of files? I may well have contributions to
make, but can't find it searching the areas on the left.

Martin listens to and records Australia's ABC Radio National:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/just-a-minute/message/72

If you go to the website, you can "Listen Live" at 5:30 am Mondays (their time), which is conveniently 1:30 pm Sundays, my time. I'm GMT -5:00 if that helps with converting time zones.

And the "spreadsheet" is the list I'm trying to compile of who owns what episode, for the purpose of getting them all here (eventually!): Master Episode List .

This is extremely interesting news, not just for the chance to fill
in odd gaps in the episode list, but there are a lot of poor quality
recordings I'd love to get a chance to replace.

I wonder if there are any other broadcasters out there doing anything
similar. Thwe first lot of episodes I ever found were from a Canadian
and I know they have a high quality public radio system. Do we have
any Canadians in the group or anyone who knows of other broadcasters
where missing/poor quality episodes can be re-recorded from?

How can I help you compile your spreadsheet. In discussions with
another member I was suggesting listing the MISSING episodes as the
easiest way of going about swapping lists.
(In fact so easy I just counted them and have a total of 59 missing,
but this doesn't include the poor recordings/truncated episodes -
also sad experience has shown me that not all episodes are what they
purport to be once you start listening - however, if this sounds like
I may have a useful collection to bring to your project then just say
the word.)

If you're looking at the spreadsheet, just missing in the sense that
no-one on that list has them.

I rather think there are a few from the first couple of years that may
have been wiped. But this would be only half a dozen shows or so.

I'm now missing only 14 radio shows, most from the first year or two -
and four of the 1995 TV series. I expect some of these will turn up some
day. It took me seven years after all to collect 691 shows. And it would
take me two weeks non-stop to listen to all those so no reason to be
greedy!

One day someone will write and say "I notice you haven't got all the
1995 series - would you like to see mine?" If that seems foolishly
optimistic, well, that's how I got the ones I have!

The CBC doesn't broadcast Just A Minute. CJRT, a Jazz/Classical music station in Toronto,
used to in the 90s but has switched formats to JAZZ FM and gone all jazz where it used to
also do classical music and BBC rebroadcasts.

So you're out of luck on the Canadian front, I'm afraid.

I occasionally get notes from people telling me it is on in various
parts of the world - South Africa, Singapore, India, and (obviously) New
Zealand. If anyone knows of shows currently being played let us all know.

holy cow, you got four from the '95 series?  awesome, I remember you were responsible for posting episode 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 11, and 13 from the '94 TV series, that is too cool, I'm dying to know which ones though.

I don't think I'll bother, given the terseness of this answer, it's obvious the idea of sharing it with the rest of us doesn't really appeal to you.

Firstly you're completely and utterly wrong in your assumption.
Secondly, this is a very rude response.

It's standard netiquette that you don't have to continually respond to
the same question every time someone new arrives.

Bobby, the only rule here is to be friendly and respectful of others.
Try and bear it in mind.

i wasn't trying to be rude, just trying to extricate myself from what I naturally assumed was a delicate issue.  I mean I had just recently joined this message group, so trying to go back to read whatever it was you wrote regarding this particular issue must've implied that you had already been asked several times about this issue and gave the same response, I merely didn't want to get chewed out the way I am now.

I assume that you've corresponded with Dean before, and as such, you
should know that he's not the type to be rude outright. He had been
asked before and gave a very good reason as to why his sharing
episodes was implausible at this point. Instead of saying "I don't
think I'll bother," why not *bother*, and figure out what you're
talking about instead of making assumptions that he was blowing you off?
