Another person who is definitely 'Brief But Memorable' is Richard Stilgoe who appeared twice alongside fellow songwriter and lyricist Tim Rice in the early 1990's.
I've been fortunate to listen to both of his appearances and found both shows that featured him to be real delights. he is very quick witted with a good ear for anecdotes and quite good at the game, in an almost Peter Jones kind of way, in that he never took himself seriously but seemed to be really enjoying himself overall. what's wonderful is that you actually do get to hear from him as he interacts rather well with the other panelists, unlike most guests that seem content to only speak when spoken to and virtually remain silent for a large portion of the show.
I remember Stilgoe was a frequent collaborator with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, in fact I believe Stilgoe wrote the lyrics for 'Starlight Express' one of my favorite musicals, and I seem to recall one episode of ISIHAC where during the game 'World's Records' there was one word that was essentially the longest word in some language, and I believe Graeme Garden said that the word was actually the anagram or acronym of the entire score of Starlight Express, which prompted Tim Brooke-Taylor to reply 'Oooh you bitch.'
initially I didn't have either episode that featured Richard Stilgoe in my collection, but thanks largely to this group I was able to rediscover two wonderful episodes from the early 90's that are now part of my JAM CD collection.
Is Stilgoe still alive? Anyone else wish to share their thoughts on Richard Stilgoe?
