JAM star Stephen Fry is rated second on this year's Pink List - the list
of the most powerful gay people in Britain.

The only person to beat him was senior Cabinet Minister Peter
Mandelson - who the paper says is arguably the most powerful individual
in the country.

So quite an achievement for Stephen. I wrote a blog post a few weeks ago
about how he seemed to be popping up everywhere on every subject, and I
think he deserves this level of recognition. He seems to me to be
morphing into a national treasure.

Other JAM stars included on the list are Sandi Toksvig (18th), Graham
Norton (19th), Clare Balding (22nd), Sue Perkins (58th) and Julian Clary
(78th).

The full list and reasoning can be seen here.

perhaps it's just mistaken identity? This from 25 August 2003

NICHOLAS PARSONS: And Julian it’s your turn to begin, the subject is my
reputation. Sixty seconds starting now.

JULIAN CLARY: I have a reputation as a bespoken nancy-boy, and renowned
homosexual, which makes it particularly difficult when I go out to meet
girls!

LOUD LAUGHTER FROM RN AND THE AUDIENCE

JC: I go around the discotheques! The other day I met a dental
receptionist called Sonya. I invited her back to my luxury home called
Show Business Lodge. She spread herself out on the sofa and then she
said “hang on a minute! Aren’t you that poof off the telly?” I said “no,
you’re mixing me up with someone else! Possibly um Dale Winton?” “No,”
she said, “I want you, I want you now, big boy...”

Annoyingly, the Independent's website has moved the link since I posted
it - it's now here
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/news/the-iiosi-pink-list-2009-1721869.
html
and links to a pop-up with pics and 100 pages... not an improvement in
my view anyway!

I just saw Stephen Fry on this week's Top Gear as the star in a Reasonably Priced Car (s13e02). He's lost a lot of weight, and Clarkson had a lot of fun playing the gay angle on Fry's cell phone.
