Second Talk and show---

Paul and nicholas disscuss how the panelists have a Go at nicholas often and that paul does too( epecially about nic's age) and that there isn't any Malice in it but paul always smiles to show the audience and nic that it's all in fun. Nic knows how to be a Straight man and that he will even throw lines out to let the panelist respond

They go to discuss kenneth and his diaries- nicholas wishes that they hadn't been publised.

( Note: I have the book but have only skimed it-do we know If kenneth wanted it published? I would appreciate any background on that)



The show- Jan 23 1982- the four 'regulars"

There was a lot of picking on Small words like "I"
and argument about what was the chief export of the state of virgina
( usa) during james the 1st reign.
Personaly I didn't find anything "outstanding' in this show but it was enjoyable.
( I will need to give it another listening-and not be muliti tasking during it) Miriam

There is an interview with Kenneth when someone asked him if the diaries
would be published and he replies "oh, not while I'm alive". Which
implies the possibility of them appearing after hs death. I rather
suspect he would have liked the idea but I guess we can't know for sure.

I think we would have missed out on a great deal if they hadn't been
published. I'll be interested to hear Nicholas on this, but if it's just
that there were some cruel comments included (undoubtedly there are), I
think he's ignoring how much we learn about Kenneth and his life.
Perhaps he knew all these things but the rest of us do learn a lot.

Thansks Dean- I think Nicoholas is referring to what I could only imagine to how the British Press responded concerning Kenneth's Diaries and focusing on his depression and negative feelings.
I get the sense from what Nicholas says that the press really played on that and Nicholas and many others that worked with Kenneth only knew his more of humourous/out going side. Miriam
