Update

One of my other Yahoo Groups has had a post which lists all/most of the online storage sites available for sharing files and asked for comments and additions.

The sites I use were on there so I decided to give some feedback on them.
On returning to my sites which I have not been to for a long time I discovered that not ALL files get deleted after a period or a length of time with no downloads.

To date the longest surviving files are zip files uploaded to MediaFire - I uploaded some a year ago and they are still there.

So if you are sharing programs in mp3 format my recommendation is to use Zip to wrap one or more audio files into one zip file and upload that to MediaFire.

I will do this from now on so my links should not die  =o)

N.B. I opened a free account so that may make a difference e.g. if you don't ALL your files MIGHT get deleted after a time (unconfirmed)

Hope this helps

Subject: [just-a-minute] "dead" group links

I occasionally receive notes asking me about the growing number of dead links in the links section.

It must be frustrating for new members to click on dead links so I've decided we should have a clean-out. Still I'm reluctant to just delete files which may be only temporarily down.

Charles Kerr has sent me this list. What I'll try and do today is email directly whoever seems to have added each file and ask for their view on whether the link should be removed.

But I'm opening this "housekeeping" type issue to anyone else who has a thought on how we can keep the list tidy and up to date.

As I say - I think we should be careful not to delete a file until we can be sure it's as dead as John Cleese's parrot.

Thoughts...?
