Topic: Editing MP3 speed

Hi all,

I was hoping a techno wizz out there could lend me some assistance. I
have perfect pitch (not to gloat, mind you); as such, I can tell that
some JAM recordings in my collection and in general circulation are
either too slow or too fast. Do any of you know of an easy-to-use
program that would allow me to adjust the speed of these files to
restore them as closely to how they would have sounded originally as
possible?

Perfect pitch?! Jealousy abounds!

Audacity has a function by which you can adjust pitch without
affecting tempo, or tempo without affecting pitch. (Or speed,
affecting both tempo and pitch.) It's a free program, too. I think you
have to download some .dll file in order to export in mp3 format, but
you can find that anywhere online.

Messing with audacity can produce some very funny results:

I'm curious about this, after listening to that one sample where Nicholas sounded like a chipmunk, it made things much more hilarious that's for sure.

does the program show you how to do all that stuff you were talking about with speed, pitch, tempo and all that?  I'm curious cuz certainly several episodes from the mid 70's need this treatment as they sound so strange like the record's being played at the wrong speed.
