Topic: Frequently Asked Questions

I have created a FAQ file in the file section which I thought we could
add to over time to help newcomers and stop the same questions being
asked over and over. We can then just say "go and see the FAQ".

There's just one question at the moment - the answer to the one Bobby
asked a couple of days ago - but I'd encourage anyone who wants to put
some permanent information in one spot to add to it.

Other things that come to mind for example could be tips on getting
tickets to shows - are there shows that are permanently missing and gone
forever, etc etc.

Anyway it would be good to have a place for newcomers to look and find
answers.

I'm not sure if as the creator I am the only one that has access. If I
am, let me know onlist or offlist and I'll add any suggestions in.
Obviously the questions and answers should be purely informational and
not of the opinion type, ie. who's the best JAM person? Who will replace
Nicholas when he goes, etc etc etc.

While I'm at it - I was thinking that maybe we could use the Calendar
section as a place to note anniversaries of deaths or important JAM
occasions, birthdays of panellists, etc. I might make a start on this....

As the creator, you're the only one who can edit the file, but anyone
can read it.

From the FAQ:
"My JAM collection isn't digitised - they sit in four drawers of the
house on cassettes."

Are those the drawers you'd go for in the event of fire? :D

Ah! I was persuing the calendar earlier and wondering about its uses.
My immediate thought was, for example, a reminder when a particularly
wanted recording was about to be broadcast, day (obviously, time and
where, start date of a new series, dates when tickets first go on
sale etc. I did notice that the time appeared to be GMT or Universal
Time which might become confusing.

Anyway, certainly this use would not clash at all with anniversary
dates as well.

Doh! Yes I meant to say that as well. Totally agree.

having read the FAQ, and Dean's answer, it makes it more understandable now that the stuff isn't digitized and I can understand if they are in hard copy form with the cassettes that it would be a very daunting task to transfer all those eps to digitized form.

Well with more and more "lost" episodes cropping up here from time to
time, Dean probably won't even have to transfer that many programs
from his extraordinarily vast collection! I mean, I didn't expect
someone to come along and share several episodes from Series 29-30
that as far as I knew nobody anywhere had available (or at least, no
one on the JAM Master Episode List). Shows what I know. :) In fact,
most of the incomplete series I have now are missing just a single
program, or two at the most. Something Dean would probably cope with a
lot easier if it came time to digitize some of the lost classics in
his collection. :) Hopefully more generous souls will appear with
episodes never available before in the meantime.

God, I love this place! :)
