While he's still a bit of a newbie after only 15 or so years on the game (I'm willing to give these newcomers a bit of a go) I must say that Master Merton thoroughly tickled my fancy in 'Jam-2009-08-17 #720 (s55e04)=What Others Find Irritating About Me'.

Please excuse my local episode nomenclature. I find my cows prefer it. Anyway...

When Paul started listing à la Clement I felt the rolling joy within me. It was the greatest possible tribute to a great, hairy, prickly clever man by another man who truly respects such legendary presences as the physical genius of Buster Keaton and the lugubrious wit of Clement Freud.

Paul would not publicly admit a love for Clement any more than Clement would have publicly admitted the joy of having Kenneth Williams' tongue in his ear, but you can feel the professional respect by Clement for Kenny and Paul for Clement.

I now believe you can surely judge a man by looking at whom the man reveres, and Paul went up a couple of steps in my book today.
