Stephen Fry

I think I may have mentioned this before, but the point is that Stephen Fry
is a hugely busy broadcaster.

He has a great number of television commitments (e.g. as resident host of
"QI" on BBC2, as host of "Stephen Fry in America" on BBC Digital, and his
drama series about a solicitor for ITV), and simply doesn't have the time to
fit in much radio.

What radio work he does do has to be done in London, and fitted in around
his other commitments. He simply doesn't have time to tour the country with
Just A Minute.

If Nicholas Parsons was currently doing three or four tv series
simultaneously, you wouldn't see him on every edition of JAM. All the major
tv studios are in London, so Stephen Fry can only manage to do radio shows
that are recorded in London, while he's there doing his tv shows.

If JAM was recorded in Norwich, fair enough. But Norfolk is about as far
away as you can get and still be in Britain! It has a semi-reliable train
service to London, but you can't get anywhere else by train from Norwich...

despite the fact he lives in Norfolk and always stands up for that neck of
the woods on programmes such as QI. I agree that most episodes he is
involved in are good - also I believe (hope) he is the kind of chap that
will be happy to do Just A Minute to preserve the institution in coming
years. Unfortunately only recording in London and preserving the institution
are not mutually exclusive.

any light on it.
