I disagree - Merton should remain where he is. However I think someone like Tony Hawks would do an excellent job - he's an intelligent guy with an eye for linguistic details, he's witty, diplomatic and always calm, we've never heard him trying to dominate the show like most other (semi)regulars has at times. Yup, my vote goes to Hawks. Though he's an excellent panellist too of course, so that'd be a loss. But JAM need a good chairman if it is to continue after Parsons!
