I live 200 miles away from Barking. In Britain that is a Long Way Away although I realise in some other countries that practically makes us neighbours. However this thread from TripAdvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g186278-i1232-k1640048-What_is_Barking_Essex_like-Essex_England.html seems fair. In summary, it has a reputation for being a bit boring and "chavvy". Its county, Essex, has a similar reputation so maybe Barking just inherits it from there. Whether it's really like that, I have no idea and no desire to find out. ;-)
