Paul's first episode is actually one that features Tim Rice also on the panel, the other two panelists were Derek Nimmo and Peter Jones and I believe the opening subject was 'Pinching'. it still didn't feature Clement Freud on the panel.

he must've been thinking about the first time he played with the other three surviving regulars rather than his first actual episode. there is a habit by certain people to forget certain things as time goes on.

Nicholas is proof positive of that, when he mentions the fact that Peter Jones has been playing the game since the show first began, when in actuality he hadn't, the same with Kenneth Williams, he didn't become a regular panelist until the second series, and Peter Jones didn't become a regular panelist until I believe series 4 or 5 in 1971.

Hi thanks for sharing the episodes to Just a Minute on the site. I belong to a site that lets you download British tv and radio programmes & discovered JAM just a few months ago. It's such a funny, clever programme. The site I belong to has all the series back to the 90's but not before that.

What I'm really after is the first episode that Paul Merton does. I heard Paul's radio tribute for the death of Clement Freud, & he mentioned the first time he (Paul) was on the show & Clement tried to throw him off by whispering how badly the show was going, with the inference that Paul was causing it.

From what I can see on the episode list on this site Paul's first episode was:

'4 April 1989, Nicholas Parsons with Paul Merton, Derek Nimmo, Peter Jones and Richard Murdoch, coconut shies'

But I've listened to the episode and Nicholas says 'we welcome back Paul Merton'. Also Clement is not in it. So there must be an earlier episode. Can anyone clear this up?
