Topic: Brothers-in-Law

I'm curious about something, twice on this program the movie 'Brothers-In-Law' has been referenced and mentioned, largely in connection to the fact that Nicholas Parsons was in it at the time.

the first time it was mentioned I think was in 1993 or 1994, when the panelists were Paul, Clement, Peter and Caroline Quentin (who was Mrs. Paul Merton at the time). I believe it was during the subject of 'Piffle', and Paul pretty much made it known that Nicholas' acting in the movie was absolute piffle (to which Nicholas took great offense when the audience applauded Paul's remarks).

The second time was actually in 2006, when the panelists were Paul, Clem, Graham and Jenny Eclair. the subject at the time was 'Brothers-in-Law', and I'm just curious if anyone has actually seen this film that apparently was made during what Nicholas refers to as his 'raw youth'.

I would also like to add how unfair I thought it was for Nicholas not to give the subject to Jenny when she challenged Clement correctly for deviation. When Clement started talking, he made no reference to Brothers-in-Law at all. All he said was that he would like to talk about other films from the 1950's, and Nicholas' justification was that 'Brothers-in-Law' was a film from the 1950's. It may have been already established by Paul, but CLEMENT hadn't established that connection. And somehow I feel the only reason he left the subject with Clement was because Nicholas vainly thought that Clement was going to talk about other films that Nicholas appeared in or something.

That movie was from 1957 and featured the Ian Carmichael who died recently. I haven't seen it for many yrs so I can't give a real review of it. But it was one of the wonderful Boulting Brothers films much in the mode of "I'm Alright Jack" ( Ian carmichael and peter sellers)

Nicholas parsons does a good Dramatic performance in a Doctor Who episode from 1989 "The Curse of Fenic"
