Topic: Upload Link: JAM 2005 Season (all)

Note about future uploads:
I thought it might be a good idea to preface all episode posts with "Upload Link", since I don't see a way to group messages in a forum style, i.e., by topic, and it might make it easier for searching purposes in the future, when--I'm sure!--there will be hundreds of files here.

Also, this format, as standard, might be helpful:

I just had an idea. Since we're posting links to these downloads,
perhaps we can use the Links menu item at the left. That way, all the
JAM downloads can be kept in one tidy, handy place, and then just make
a post to the board once they're added.

I'm not sure how the Links menu works. I'm guessing they won't be
automatically alphabetized, but instead just stacked in the order of
their induction, so people would have to search through them, just as
they'd have to search through the messages list. But it's still worth
a try . . . I'll add one now.

Reply number two! Since the "description" text box lets us put in the
numbers of the individual episodes in the .zip file, this idea shows a
lot of merit! That way, a simple Ctrl+F can direct people to the
specific epi they need, if necessary. Huzzah!

no, they won't be alphabetised. But I can tidy them up if we get so many
they're unwieldly.

Amazing we're talking about such a problem just 24 hours after this
group was created!

I'd been considering emailing you for weeks about your episode collection, since you seemed to have mysterious access to shows (judging by the fact that you transcripted them) that no one else did! I didn't know if you were willing to be the sharing type. Of course I'd jump on this group as though it were -- a horse that were heading to a JAM recording or . . . yeah.

If you ever need links for episodes of QI, conversely . . . :D

I am the sharing type and copied a hell of a lot of tapes at personal
expense over the past eight years. About 20 shows a week for most of
that time. But that's what they all stand as - as cassettes. I don't
rule out transferring them all to digital files but it's obviously a big
project...

I just made another upload to the links page, and it does appear the
list is alphabetized. I uploaded the 2006 Complete Series 51-52, and
it appears in its proper place in the list. That works out well!

Dean, as I now have all broadcast episodes of JAM from Series 33
onwards (I found the one ep I was missing on that Sarena site), I can
work on getting those ones uploaded to the group if you like. :) If
you do decide to transfer files from your own collection into digital,
I'd think the best way would definitely be on a series by series basis.

Ah, I see how cassettes would be a problem. I have a quadrillion
episodes of "The Goon Show" on tape, and I've never been bothered to
convert them into a format that I can, you know, actually use, without
hauling out the old tape player. Well, if time or finances are any
deterrent, I'm sure you'd have many people who'd be willing to help
you out!

Emile, how impressive! I'm in love with your collection.

Thanks very much. I'm pretty proud of it. To think I began with a
small smattering of tapes, back in 1999. Through the generosity of
people like Dean as well as scouring the net (Audiogalaxy, WinMX,
Napster, and the like), I now have nearly 85% of all broadcasted radio
episodes of JAM (as of today, 563 out of 665 broadcast).

If he's willing (and no rush on this or anything, LOL) I'd be more
than glad to help Dean put together series by series ZIPs, as many of
the series I have pretty much from the mid 1980's to mid 1990's are at
least half-complete. For instance, I'm only missing four episodes from
Series 32 (Eps #455, 458, 461 and 462). It's a simple matter of
filling in smaller gaps like that.

::gasp:: I'm in email contact with a very nice man from France who also has an extensive JAM collection, and I was going to send him a CD with a few episodes I DLed that he doesn't have, in exchange for a million (all right, 147) of his episodes that I don't have. And those four are among them!

 I told him I'd send him 91, 94, 95, 97, 132, 150, 152, 266, 302, 368, 411, 619, 650. Upon closer examination, I found several of them (from Sadena) to be incomplete. Any chance you have those?

I actually made an extensive list of the discrepancies between our two lists, and then the episodes that neither of us had. Here's the "neither" list, hosted on my webspace (with the numbers in parentheses indicating simply how many episodes are in the hyphenated range):

http://www.freewebs.com/qitranscripts/JAMmissing.html

Oops, it only starts at 76. But that's the bulk of them. Do you have any of those? And which ones are you missing, specifically? I'll check them against his list and maybe among the four of  us (including Dean), we'll have an even greater majority of the episodes.

Do you happen to have a list of dates to correspond with those numbered
episodes? Unfortunately my collection is sorted by date, and not all of
the episode numbers came with the original files that I have; I'd be
happy to check through my collection to see if I have any that you're
missing.
I wish there were some sort of spreadsheet that simply listed each JAM
episode by date....

Well, out of that particular list, I have:

Complete: 94 95 97 132 150 152 266 619 and 650
Incomplete: 91 368 and 411
Don't have: 302

I compiled a list of my own missing episodes. There's a bit of
overlap, it does appear you have a few episodes I don't, but I'd have
to look at both our lists again to make sure exactly which ones those
are. My list is at:

Maybe we could create one and post it in the files section? It shouldn't
be too much work, I wouldn't have thought. I could possibly just copy
some of the files I have on my PC onto a spreadsheet?

That was my next project: I'm currently working on a numbered list
that denotes who, in my knowledge, is in possession of each episode.
16 pages long! If you did the dates, we could accomplish two things at
once.

well I am happy to help but I think you should see how much material you
can collate that is already digitised. I don't have any secret personal
source, I just had my shingle out for a long time. I would think that
once you all collate all your material, you might find there isn't much
extra that I have anyway.

I do believe that. Don't worry, you won't be pressured into
painstakingly digitizing all of your tapes!
