Gyles is one of my favourites & especially when he argues and is 'wronged'. I saw an episode of him hosting Have I got news for you which was good too. It's not only what he says, it's his unique voice that is so captivating - it makes you listen.

I think Pam has the same quality actually. Even though she doesn't always say jokes during her bits, her pronunciation and accent is so interesting. Actually that it something Paul Merton said in his tribute to Clement Freud - 'in those days (the 1980's) the style of the programme was much more that each competitor would talk in a well informed, erudite manner on any given subject & the humour arose mainly from the challenges, less from the talk, Clement was perhaps the most likely to put a joke into his discourse'.

So she mainly does her bit without jokes, but I think it still works well. Episode 7 she talked on the first signs of spring which was funny - it had nice sexual imagery e.g. the unfurled leaf, the swelling bud, the unstoppable throb of the rising sap. Pretty clever. And was getting Nicholas purple & hot & bothered according to Jenny. I thought it was funny.
