Hello cat,
Nice to hear from you again. You almost gave me the opportunity to make a joke about the fact that I went to a boys only school, but as it wasn’t in Croydon, I shan’t bother.
First of all I’d like to point out for anybody who might be interested that Espen and I have cleared up our little misunderstanding off-list.
Now, you ask, “why all the vitriol?” What you call vitriol, I call plain speaking served sometimes with a garnish of sarcasm.
Enough said except for two things I have to ask.
Some months back, a number of posts appeared here containing views and opinions that were unjust, rude, unkind and even cruel about Nicholas Parsons. Did you ask that poster, “why all the vitriol?”? If not, why not?

Changes for JAM?
Steve,
You're fully entitled to your opinion of Susan Perkins (indeed, I'm sure I'm
not wrong in recalling an earlier critique of her style which managed to
shoehorn in a veiled reference to her sexuality), and some of what you say may
be valid, but why all the vitriol? Did you go to school with her in Croydon or
something?
