Firstly Thank you so much for all the work uploading all the episodes, just fantastic.
Secondly have now downloaded most of them i think but a few 731 appear as txt files rather than mp3.
I'm sure it's my fault but any ideas how to solve this?
Apologies in advance for my computer illiteracy and if this problem has already been dealt with.

I have had this happen to me before as well-so can someone give us an answer?
sometimes I have been able to 'fix' it by adding ".mps." but it doesn't always work. thank you

I think it's because the filename ends up being so long that it somehow "forgets" to add the .mp3 extension. When you save it, you need to add ".mp3" to the filename and it will save it properly.

And if it doesn't work, try making the filename a bit shorter, then add the .mp3 extension. I have had to do that a few times in the past if i recall.

Emile is correct. Mediafire has a limit of 100 characters for filenames, which is just too short for verbose namers like me where I like to jam a lot of information in the filename.

Unfortunately, if the filename is longer than 100 characters, Mediafire just truncates the filename leaving it without an extension at all. The bigger problem is that Mediafire will not allow the extension of an uploaded file to be changed. Presumably this is to discourage nefarious individuals from uploading a viral file with an innoccuous extension and then later changing the extension to an executable one.

The upshot is the only way to correct the extension of a file with a too-long filename is to shorten it and upload it again to Mediafire.

As Emile says, renaming the downloaded file to add .mp3 to the end SHOULD work. If it doesn't, then the file may have been corrupted during download or is in fact not an MP3 format file.

This fault can occur if the file name contains any extra (i.e. unnecessary)
"." characters (a period, also known as a full stop).

On Windows computers, the mp3 file type is identified by the three letters
"mp3", after the dot. Windows can't recognise the file as being an mp3 if
the file type is ambiguous, e.g. if it contains more than one dot.

I often come across filenames that have more than one dot in them,
especially broadcast audio (e.g. radio shows). For instance, there is a daft
practice of including the broadcast date in the form 08.08.1992 (August 8,
1992), instead of writing it as 08-08-1992.

Also, if something happens to the file name that strips out the file type
(i.e. strips out all the characters after the dot), or which strips out the
dot itself, then Windows will also not recognise that the file is an mp3
audio file.

In all such cases, the reaction of Windows in unpredictable. But if you have
any version of Microsoft Word installed, your computer will be set up to
recognise quite a wide range of file types as being text files (even though
they don't necessarily end in .TXT or .DOC); and in addition having no
filetype on a file is often treated by MS-Word as its default setting, so
that it adjusts the Windows registry to treat any file without a valid
filetype as being a text file.

These are some typical causes of Windows treating a file with an ambiguous
or incorrect filename, or without a valid filetype, as a text file.
