I remember the first time I heard Peter. Must have been one of his last
90s recordings, and I remember feeling slightly embarassed and felt
sorry for that old man with his ramblings, not playing the game at all.
How little I knew then of his history with the show.

Today I share your views about him, he is *the* panel member in my
opinion, an element to the mix that colored the entire show and not just
when he spoke.
And he had this strange ability of being incredibly funny without
seemingly trying to! Did he ever really try to tell a "joke"? Did he
ever repeat any material from some of his other work (like *every* other
panel member do)? To me as a listener it never sounded like that! He
were just... FUNNY!

Peter Jones was the quintessential wit, he always had something clever and funny to say without even trying.  he didn't need to repeat any of his past material, and very often found it very unoriginal and in bad taste whenever people repeated something he himself said just a moment ago, and thought it was utterly boring for people to repeat what someone else said, because it displayed a complete and utter lack of originality.
