A poster at my blog says the panel for the second show
is Paul Merton, Sue Perkins, Liza Tarbuck and John Sergeant. John did one radio
show back in 2005 and two TV ones in 1999. He was very successful on the TV ones
but less so up against Paul and Clement. Still he's witty, competitive and
brings something different to the table from the stand-up comedians so I'll be
interested to hear how he goes.

Paul Merton and Gyles Brandreth are the two regulars at
Edinburgh this year, and Stephen K Amos is among the guest
panellists.

Can't wait for these shows - the team for the third show
of the season is Paul Merton, Tony Hawks, Sheila Hancock and Ross Noble! Ross
and Sheila are among my absolute very favouritest guests.
Wow!

We may see, sorry hear, more of Ross Noble since he moved back to the UK earlier this year after his Australia house fell victim to a bush fire. I also hope that cloud has a silver lining of more JaM appearances from him.
Cheers

Ross Noble has moved back to the UK? That's fantastic! I hope this does lead to more appearances by Ross, his brief appearances in the past few years have had a bit of a mixed effect. In one episode at the Fringe he managed to do mime on radio and be excellent at it, but in another episode he was treated like utter rubbish because Nicholas was sick of listening to Ross talking about licking Dale Winton. this will be interesting because I seem to recall that when Ross first came on the show he had a bit of a rivalry with Clement, nothing serious, but it was always fun hearing Ross say things like 'I'll get you Freud!' after again being denied another challenge against Sir Clement. if Ross can become a regular on the show again, I think that would be just what the show needs. And also, with Sheila making another appearance, that should be interesting to hear as well, given that with the Original Foursome gone, Sheila is one of the few remaining links to the show's history still around. --- On Thu, 8/5/10, kj.naughton <kj.naughton@...> wrote:

I don't think he has moved back to the UK - since 2005 he's always spent about half the year in each country. He did lose his house/farm in Victoria a couple of years ago though, poor guy.
But in any case, I'd love to hear more of Ross. The episode with Ross/Sue Perkins/others, where Ross has the subject of "Diets" is one of my favorite of all time.

The only reason I mentioned that he'd moved back to the UK was because he said it on the Jonathan Ross chat show a few months ago. However things may have changed... And before my image is further tarnished, I only watched that show because Ross was on it... For what it's worth, Ross's Wikipedia entry say the same thing, though how reliable that is, I couldn't say. ;-)

To state the bleedin' obvious then - if there are only 8 shows in the series, Paul seems to be in all 8 and Gyles is in half of them!
Nice to see steps being taken to give the show a more consistent feel now there are only Nicholas and Paul left. God knows it'll be difficult enough to replace Nicholas when the sad day comes, but if there's only Paul to rebuild the show around I hate to think what might happen...

yes, that's right. Gyles will have been in 8 of the 20
shows this year. Not quite a regular I guess, but the closest to it, apart from
Paul. I know he does still repeat mater ial sometimes, but I find him much more
original these days and he is a contrast to Paull.

Well that is some pretty strong evidence to support the notion that Ross has moved back to the UK or is moving back at least. If Ross was on Twitter i think we would know for certain. Then again perhaps not.
Whatever the situation for Ross is at present, let us hope that it leads to him coming back to JAM on a more regular basis.

I tried to post this about 20 hours ago but it doesn't seem to have turned up so will try again
revised teams for Edinburgh - they were
* Paul Merton, Gyles Brandreth, Shappi Khorsandi and John Bishop
* Paul Merton, Jenny Eclair, Fred MacAulay and Stephen K Amos
so two newcomers - apparently Mr Amos had troubles with the swearing. He may also be the first person of African-American or West Indian descent to appear on the radio programme since the very first series.
Interesting that Paul was the only player at both shows...

Looking forward to those shows.
John Bishop has long been one of my favourite panellists on Fighting Talk where he's both funny and talkative. He also has a well-received show on BBC1 TV on Saturday prime-time. We don't get many Scouse accents on JaM and I hope he did well enough to be invited back.
Interesting to hear about the swearing - I wonder if Stephen K Amos will be bleeped or whether it'll be more heavily edited.

I'm actually hope to hear a few bleeps, I mean if its words like 'shit' or 'fuck' cuz obviously words like 'ass', 'bitch', 'bollocks' and 'bugger' are suitable for broadcasting. same with 'pussy' as is evident from that one thing Graham Norton talked about years ago on the subject of 'socks'.

does this mean we're gonna be hearing a lot of bleeping noises? the only time that happened on JAM was i think in the mid to late 80's, when they bleeped out the word 'bugger' during the subject of 'Bogna Regis'.

Hello Robert,
That entirely depends on the context. If the word in question refers to a cat, or could possibly refer to a cat, that's fine. If it obviously refers to a part of the female anatomy, it's not fine, at least for broadcast before 9pm in the UK. Comments about "stroking Mrs Slocombe's pussy" were the staple of a primetime BBCTV show for many years.
If you're referring to the line in the 40th anniversary show ("I'm reliably informed it's the only pussy in the White House that Hillary doesn't mind Bill Clinton stroking") then get-out-of-jail-free card that Graham used was to use it as a double-entendre. Clearly the line could be intepreted as referring to a cat just as it could equally be referring to something else.
This is widespread on the BBC; I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue use it extensively, especially in the "Lionel Blair" introductions to Sound Charades as well as the infamous "Janet And John" stories on Terry Wogan's various shows. Julian Clary based much of his early career (and early appearances on JaM) on innuendo and double-entendres.
Given Steven K. Amos's history then it's unlikely he'd be using it as a "double" though. And, with the possible exception of the word that also means a donkey, it's very, very unlikely any of the other words you quote would make it into any pre-9pm Radio 4 show.
Cheers

For those who haven't heard it, I would also recommend Fighting Talk. It's a comedy sports panel show. All episodes can be found on this site
I also hope Stephen K Amos will be good (swearing apart). I see quite a lot of comedians, and I saw him at one of the best shows I have ever been to.
