I just finished listening to it-all the panelists were in good form (good to hear paul merton being more involved and he got some good lines in there)

Loved the Doctor Who referrance from Nicholas ( he really was good in that story)

Had to feel a bit sorry for nicholas though- he was having some problems keeping things under control ( amusing as it was) he is showing some signs of slowing down. ( sadly)

Glad to hear Jenny back! She may not get a lot of points but I do find her entertaining and she has no problems dealing with the men on the show

Glyes was..well Glyes but not as annoying as he can be ( My personal opinion and I will leave it at that)

Graham was quite good and a bit naughty but that is his forte.

All in all I liked what I heard. Miriam

I pretty much agree with Miriam.

The show sounded more chaotic than many and there were many things left in that may previously have been edited out, including some of Paul's rather ascerbic one-liners. And, of course, the incident with "the lady in the white coat" (as Kirsty mentioned in her report) was left in although, in hindsight, it would have been difficult to remove it without losing the whole round.

I also agree with Miriam in that it was one of Nicholas's weaker shows in terms of chairmanship but not in terms of humour. Here's hoping he's back on form in the forthcoming shows.

Cheers

I wish the confusion of the first round had been edited out, Nicholas just ended up looking feeble there.

But the moment later in the show when he randomly gave Paul the subject was brilliant. In fact, on the whole, an incredibly funny show. All 4 panelists were very good, and apart from one bit early on when he didn't seem to know where he was, Nicholas did well.

Omg! Ive got to listen to this one. It seems my concern for Nicholas hasnt been unwarranted. I mean there have been other occasions where it seemed that he didnt know what was going on, but this sounds serious. No doubt if Derek Nimmo were still around he`d comment about Nicholas being ready to be `shipped off to the twilight home`. I know ive railed against the old boy, but perhaps this is the time the BBC should seriously begin considering finding a replacement for Nicholas. If Nick is showing signs of mental disarray, it can only get worse as the series proceeds. I may not like Nick as a chairman, but i do respect and admire his loyalty and dedication to the program over the years. The next few weeks could prove to be crucial to the program`s future. This could be the start of a major milestone even bigger than the passing of Kenneth Williams. Then again, perhaps its too soon to tell and we`ll just have to wait and see how the rest of the
series shapes up.

I agree with you KJ that the programme sounded looser than usual. I have a theory that the players are a lot more relaxed without Clement. I think even in just over a year the nature of the game has changed a bit and the panellists are more likely to mess with the rules, and the chairman.

I guess my fear is that without someone like Clement who cares about the game as a game, that the show will get even looser and head towards self-parody. There has to be that element of competition there in my view, or it's just a lot of comedians who can't really get their jokes out, but spend a lot of time laughing at themselves anyway. That would be dire.

Of course it's also quite possible that the show will develop into something different but equally good or better. Every time the regulars have changed - when Peter Jones joined, when Paul replaced Kenneth, when Peter and Derek died - the show has changed. It may be in the process of morphing now and it may end up better than its predecessors.

But I think the show definitely IS and WILL BE different without the great Sir Clement.

On Nicholas, he did get confused in that round - but otherwise he was pretty much on form, and like others I think was on the ball on humour. I think he milked the confusion for its comic potential, just like dear old Peter Jones used to. I wouldn't read any more than that into it.

I thought it was interesting too that Nicholas turned down a challenge for repetition of the small word "I". I wonder if that complaint he had a few months ago has changed his mind on that issue.

cheers, Dean

Robert,

If I were you, I'd listen to the show before saying too much. Like others, I'm not convinced it was anything other than a humourous device.

We've also been there before and, frankly, I don't think may people enjoyed that "debate". Personally I'd rather not delve into anyone's mental state, let alone someone in their late eighties who I don't know. I'm not qualified to comment and I find it rather tasteless. Please let sleeping dogs lie.

Cheers
