Just A Minute

John Baddeley seemed an unusual choice to appear during the mid 1980's, as he seemed the sort that should've appeared in the 1970's.  Still, although he seemed like a pleasant enough fellow, he wasn't all that memorable on the show, as he just had a hard time getting the hang of the game.  it didn't help that Nicholas one minute is treating John favorably and the next minute is treating him like a piece of toilet roll stuck to the bottom of his shoe.  it also doesn't help that the episodes he appeared in weren't all that great. 

 

I seem to recall an argument breaking out in the beginning over the fact that Kenneth screwed up the date of the launch of the Marie Celeste and even though he was in clear violation of the rules he was allowed the keep the subject, even after being challenged correctly twice. 

 

something else I think occurred during the first episode that I just found really stupid and not at all funny or amusing was when John had the subject of 'Unsolicited Mail', in which John was talking about opening a letter, and he goes on to say, quite clearly:  'would you like to be more alluring for the man in your life?'  and a series of ridiculous misunderstandings break out that have no resemblance to logic at all, as it is based on a ludicrous idea proposed by Kenneth that John Baddeley's diction was appalling. 

 

And then Nicholas makes an even dafter comment saying 'who is this Morning Glory' when even the audience all heard that what John said was 'more alluring'. 

 

apparently, John appeared in one of the early Muppet movies, not sure which one though.  other than that, I know bugger all about John Baddeley.
