Topic: The JAMmer will return

I figured I'd post a quick info to avoid speculations :)
I will have to move the JAM web radio stream to a different port (or
"frequency", if you like :)). Not far though: Instead of 8005 it will in
a few hours time be back on 8006. Ergo:

http://stream.beatradar.no:8006 now, not 8005. It'll be down for a few
hours now though.

It's starting to get quite a steady amount of visitors now, slowly
climbing, pretty cool to observe. Especially when the AVERAGE listening
duration often go as high as a few HOURS, not just a few minutes.

And I was thinking, we really should use that station to promote the JAM
Yahoo group, Deans site plus mailing list. So... If anyone got any ideas
on how to do that, I'm all in!

How about we re-record Monty Python's Spam song and replace all occurrences of "Spam" with "Dean"?

That should do it.  ;-)

thanks for the heads-up Espen.

In case you didn't know I do have links to the "station" on both the website front page and the blog so please keep me in touch with any future changes to the link.

Just out of interest, when I've listened recently, it plays shows from only the past 10 years... personally I did used to like hearing a recent show alongside a Kenneth Williams show...

It's up to you of course what shows you play and I am one of those who sometimes "tunes in" for a couple of hours. So either way I really appreciate it very much.

On promoting the website and yahoo group... I've never sought traffic at all and still don't really care that much about number of hits and so on. But of course if you want to mention it, I have no objections. Probably the simplest address to mention is just-a-minute dot info

cheers, Dean

What I want to know is how the spammers know I need them in the first place...

Hey guess what: I had a look at the server and what do you know, somehow I had indeed managed to do exactly as you suspected, it was only listed shows from this decade on the playlist. I must have done some sort of mistake when I recreated the playlist after upgrading the recordings I ripped from the JAM CDs!

And here I was, suspecting the server to randomly pick only shows with recording dates close to eachother... *sigh*
Man's urge to "blame something else" are sometimes *too* apparent. :D

Yes of course I know - your site is amongst the selected few I visit regularly :)
The server is up again now, but on port 8007, not 8006 as planned.

Just out of interest, when I've listened recently, it plays shows from only the past 10 years... personally I did used to like hearing a recent show alongside a Kenneth Williams show...

I know, I've noticed that too! And to make it even stranger this seems to have started *after* I added the 70s to the playlist. And I agree with you, it's the random and surprising jumps in time that made it kinda fun even though we've got all the recordings anyways.

The first weeks I thought it was a tad too much pre-90s for my taste though, I actually checked if I had forgotten to add this decade to the list.

I do not know how the random feature of the server works, but it seems like it's not entirely random, maybe it picks a track amongst the ones that's within a certain distance on the playlist maybe? I dunno... It's easy to stir the playlist up a bit though, I'll do that then let's see what happens. :)

It's up to you of course what shows you play and I am one of those who sometimes "tunes in" for a couple of hours. So either way I really appreciate it very much.

I don't really consider it to be "mine" per say, it more a question of me giving a little something back to the community. It would never have been had it not been for you guys sharing the recordings in the first place.

Well, the JAMmer should at least have a website to refer to, I'll put your website as the streams homesite then, if you are ok with that.
But it would be cool if some audible spots could be made. I'm no radio producer though... Can hardly speak english at all :D

Oh well. We shall see. :)
