Hi Dean,
Excellent news. A half-hour's drive from me. And just next to where the BBC are moving to at MediaCity. I saw a Clue recording at the Lowry Theatre some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it - it's a stunning venue. Here's hoping I can get hold of some tickets...
Incidentally, when I saw your link, I thought it said raintoday.co.uk which is a site showing the weather radar for the UK. I knew Salford and Manchester were famous for rain, but I thought they'd started announcing events on the weather site!

About 200 miles north-west of London. It's the twin city with Manchester if that helps you locate it.
The train takes about 150 minutes from London - that gets you into central Manchester and then you can take a tram to the Lowry direct from the train station.
Depending on when you want to travel you can get the train for around £40 (about $61) by booking in advance and travelling off-peak but if you have to pay full fare then it's closer to £240 (about $370).

*Yay* Saw the recording at the Opera House a couple of years ago and been waiting for a return to Manchester(ish!) ever since!

Just to add.... You can usually get each way for about £11 in fact - I make the journey regularly on my jaunts to London! There are still some low price fares for that day, the only problem I can see is the return journey as the last direct train goes at just after 9pm. After that it takes about 7 or 8 hours and involves 2 or 3 trains.
You would be best off booking a night in a hotel in Manchester - I can't imagine hanging around Crewe train station for 3 hours in the middle of the night would be much fun :o)

That renders my point about return trains absolutely pointless! You will, of course, have no problems doing this as a day trip!

...there's actually quite a bit to see in Manchester if you want to make it a proper day-trip. The theatre is west of Manchester in an area called Salford Quays. In the immediate vicinity is the Imperial War Museum and the Lowry Theatre itself has a collection of LS Lowry's paintings which are worth a look. And not too far away is Manchester United's stadium where you can book a tour.

I'm bored on a Friday night, so I looked this ridiculous question up. The answer is 'long' (your only option involves the Trans-Siberian Railroad), and you have to get yourself to Ho Chi Minh City.
HCMC -> Hanoi: ~34 hrs
Hanoi -> Beijing: ~42 hrs (includes 3hr layover in Dong Dang at the border)
Beijing -> Moscow: ~151 hrs (just under a week!)
Moscow -> Köln -> Brussels -> London: ~63 hrs (this trip is well-documented)
Total: ~290 hrs, plus changing trains and whatnot, and then the train to Manchester (another 2-ish hrs, which should be peanuts by this point). You could maybe do it in two weeks (336 hrs), but why not take your time and stop off along the way?
It's also possible to train it from Singapore to Bangkok and thence take a short bus jaunt into Vietnam, or take a cruise ship (cargo ship?) from Sydney to Hong Kong or Singapore, but you're on your own for those. This page may be useful: http://www.seat61.com/Australia-overland.htm

Thank you for the info- the trick will be getting the tickets to the show itself( and will they take an Overseas order?)
But I will look into it and if you or anyone else has any advice I will gladly listen. Believe me I will try anything to make this happen- I had fiqured that I would never even have the chance to go to a JAM recording and comforted myself with 2 of the Improv Shows with paul merton at the comedy club during my upcoming visit.
I was amusing myself at work wondering if Manchester has a "Life on Mars" tour LOL-been rewatching the series-( the usa version was bad!)
