Were you a member of this Group in May 2009 ?
If so, you may remember we had a session of sorting all the dead links on the Links > Other Shows section of the Group.
The dead links were all due to files being removed from on-line storage accounts.

At the time I used Mediafire, Mediamax, Megaupload, Sendspace and Yousendit.
The only files that seemed to be immune to deletion were zip files on Mediafire, hence my comment.

Free accounts in these on-line storage facilities seem to have their folders purged of files that are not accessed for some time. This only happens after many months - some of my links had been there for years so were dead.  Of course, this does not apply to paid-for Subscriber accounts.

Extract from Mediafire terms and conditions...
"MediaFire is designed to be used as a File Sharing service. It is not meant to be used as a long term backup service for important files. Mediafire does not recommend that you upload files for long term storage as they may be subject to deletion if they are not accessed."

Hi Don,

I have never had that problem with Mediafire for the one exception when they wiped my entire folder out due to a HD problem. I have uploaded Rar's Zips and MP3's and as I say never had a problem. I used to use it mostly for Big Finish stuff and was getting one out of four errors coming back with rars that's when I started just uploading the raw mp3's.

You watch having said all that now, tomorrow my entire collection will be wiped again...lol

As I said before when uploading to Mediafire it's best to upload as zip files, this means they never get deleted.
mp3 files get deleted after a 'yet-to-be-determined' amount of time and/or no downloads

Files I uploaded as zip files are still there after many months, the mp3 files are all gone
