My delayed Salford recording report

My cold is slowly clearing up and I can better read my notes now.

Before the show:

first the producer claire jones comes out and 'begs' us to laugh
( like we have to Fake it?)

Nicholas comes out to good round of applause-to interduce the panelist but is interupted by man coming out and presenting nicholas with Lifetime achievement award-standing ovation- Nicholas clearing moved and surprised. It was a huge clear glass bowl.
( nichoas was not going to be attending the radio awards that night so they did it before JAM)

Nicholas introduces panelists- Paul merton and Kit HH and Alan Cochrane and Tony Hawks. Paul is playing with the bowl-they finally decide to sit it in front of nicholas. Then it's microphone and buzzer testing time-buzzers are faint-alan's was barely audiable.Tony mentions that he and Paul took the train up together and were nearly late
Crowd was mixed- I would say 20's-60's. I was balcony center 1st row so I had a good view.
The Bowl award is a running joke- alan cochrone takes a bit to get going but soon is right in there with the other 3- uses his "local' boy to his advantage to appeal to the audience.
Local subject of Cornation street/other subjects include "conkers" and "nicholas' wallet". Split audience reaction to recent Wayne Rooney/Manchester United situation.

Paul plays to the audience quite abit too and likes to try to wind nicholas up. They play off each other well.

Interesting note: paul while paying close attention to other panelists when they speak is constantly scribbling on his notepad.

At one point nicholas starts to read out a subject that has already been used-whistle blower ( sorry her name escapes me right now) has to stop him and find the correct card for him.
( now Please don't use this to start another go at nicholas- I wasn't sure if I was even going to mention it fearing it would)

There was only a few minutes break between shows- seems that they were running late and all had trains to catch after the recording.

Overall they were both good recordings although I think the first one was the better of the 2. All 4 panelists were in good form.
The second show an audience member gives involved and is part of a running joke.

I quite enjoyed watching the show Live and being a part of it.
It was well worth the time and effort to get the ticket and journey up there from london. I had a couple hrs in manchester to see a bit of it.

Again I want to thank Dean for nudging me on to try for it and for Cat and others that helped me with transporation.

I posted a couple pictures in the "silly things fans will do" album that I had already started. They were quite strict about cameras/moblile in the balcony ( saw an usher get after one person)
they seems to go off more in the main level before the recording actually started. And I added 1 picture of the memorial plaqure for Willie Rushton at the Mornington Crescent tube station
