I had similar thoughts to this – you don’t mention Isla Blair though – I think she could be a chance.

I think it has to be someone who is a bit divorced from the comedy scene – but also desperate enough to go on TV on a show they knew nothing about... my favourite is Michael Cashman...

I think Bruce, Ayres & Punt would definitely have heard of JAM. Bruce regularly mentions it, but whether he did before appearing on it, I'm not sure. Pam Ayres listens to Radio 4 all the time & has said so many times, and Punt MUST have heard of it, since he specialises in "mocking" humour & JAM & Nicholas are easy targets.

O'Connor, & Wilmot are comedians and would probably have heard about it when discussing work.

Balding, Cashman, Sargeant, Sewell are more specialised (sports presenter, actor, news reporter & arts critic) & possibly would not be aware, although I can imagine Sargeant & Sewell are regular Radio 4 listeners, more than Cashman or Balding.

So my vote is for Cashman or Balding.

By the way, nobody's mentioned it yet, but Gyles Brandreth was the guest on last Sunday's Desert Island Discs (repeated this Friday and available on the iPlayer for a few more days.) I enjoyed it, although on TV his smugness irritates me.

Phil.

My money would be on Clare Balding, because of her age, and her background.  It's quite possible that her parents either didn't listen to radio 4, or not to JAM specifically, and I know so many people aged 40 and under who just don't understand that one can be entertained by media that isn't music, AND doesn't have pictures!

If it is Clare, she is forgiven, as for my money (again), she is the most capable and competent woman presenter I've ever seen.
