well yeah but only if you use an editor that converts to a .wav or something analogue as Audacity does
instead use mptrim, it edits the mp3 frames directly so is very fast too
no conversion = no added loss of quality

Thanks for the tip about Radio Downloader.  The only drawback I can see is that it saves in MP3 format, which is lossy.  Edit out the top & tail and save it again and you introduce generational lossiness.

Admittedly, a single MP3 re-save introduces minimal loss, but in 100 years when copies of our copies are being passed around, every bit counts  :-)

By recording live ("What You Hear"  in real time) lets me record to lossless WAV format which I can save as FLAC (to save space) and edit any number of times with no generational loss.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
I had purchased Total Recorder yrs ago for a friend to record stuff for me as then I had only dial up and a very old pc. ( things got too busy for them to make me hard copies anymore.) Then I got a hand me down pc and dsl but again the machine I had really couldn't handle it well
Luckily once you pay you can get their updates for free so I was able to install the newest version. I was able to record from the listen again at the bbc and while I am still trying to learn more on the How to's I did get it to work ok. Will need to study the tutorals as I somewhat tech challenged still. Miriam

PS.I was able to record News Quiz ep 2 but the first one was off the listen again- anyone have this?
